Born and raised in Toronto Ontario, Emily-May Bebb always knew she wanted to pursue an education in Counselling Psychology in order to grow and develop her interest and ability in helping those around her through a perspective of growing the strength and independence of the individual to help themselves.

As a passionate nature lover the call of the British Columbia wilderness drove Emily to study for her undergraduate degree at The University Of Victoria where she specialized in Adolescent Development, and began her studies in the techniques of Behaviourism and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She then completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University which had a strong focus on practical application and counselling skills development. As horses had always been a big part of Emily’s passion for outdoor activities, nature, and animals, she also obtained her FEEL® (Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning) certification, in order to combine Equine Learning with Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Today she splits her time between her practice at The Budding Elm, and her FEEL® practice at Horse Wisdom Farm in Brentwood Bay. Emily is also a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Emily has always found it very important to adhere to evidence based practice and employs a wide variety of techniques in order to best suit each individual’s needs. She likes to say to her clients “I may be the expert on psychology, but you are the expert on you, so we can work together to find the program that is your best fit”. It is important to her to provide her clients with the skills and tools that will enable them to work towards mental and emotional wellness that stands the test of time and adversity. Her modalities include but are not limited to Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solutions Focussed Therapy, Positive and Strength Based Counselling, Exposure Therapy, Nature Therapy, and Equine Assisted Counselling via the FEEL® method.

Emily uses her knowledge in partnership with her clients knowledge of themselves to help clients overcome a variety of challenges including depression, anger management, emotional regulation, anxiety, phobias, PTSD/trauma, relationship and communication skills, parenting skills and strategies, assertiveness training, coping with stress and adversity and life stage changes, as well as strengthening resilience and finding daily gratitude and joy no matter what life brings.

Emily believes in the power of the individual coupled with the therapeutic relationship to bring clients to a state of wellness that not only helps clients to overcome adversity but continues a process of emotional skill and understanding that will promote a client’s ability to explore their true potential and live a life filled with joy and meaning. Simply being ok is not the end goal in Emily’s practice, rather living life to its fullest potential and enjoying each day is the milestone Emily hopes to see each and every one of her clients reach.
