What We’re Looking For

• Educational Background: Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Required). Currently enrolled in a Master’s-level Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy program on a pathway to registration (e.g., BCACC, CCPA, or equivalent).

• Clinical Focus: Eager to provide client-centered counselling to individuals (ages 12+) navigating a wide variety of presenting concerns. A strong interest in supporting children (ages 5+) and families is considered a significant asset.

• Caseload Capacity: Able to build and maintain a caseload of 12–15 client sessions per week (individual, youth, or family/couples therapy).

• Availability: Flexible scheduling options, including evening and weekend availability (must be available to work either Saturdays or Sundays).

• Ethical Standards: Dedicated to upholding the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice required by your professional association/regulatory college.

• Clinical Approach: Grounded in systemic, anti-oppressive, humanistic, strengths-based, and trauma-informed therapeutic lenses. Skilled in risk assessment and safety planning.

• Professional Accountability: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clear ethical boundaries. Able to provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Beyond direct clinical hours, interns at The Budding Elm have unique opportunities to collaborate with leadership and clinical supervisors to expand their professional skill set:

• Program Development: Assist in researching, designing, and implementing new clinic programs and group workshops.

• Resource Creation: Translate clinical insights into engaging psychoeducational tools, blogs, worksheets, and community resources.

• Community & Operational Experience: Contribute to practice outreach, quality-improvement initiatives, and internal team projects.

Note: Eligible non-direct activities may contribute toward non-direct client contact hours upon approval from your academic program.
