ADULTS, COUPLES & FAMILY

Alyssa Vincent

Alyssa brings a Master of Science in Clinical Counselling to her work as a Registered Clinical Counsellor at The Budding Elm, with a focus on somatic and trauma-informed therapy. Her approach honours both the science of the nervous system and the wisdom of the body, offering care that is trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming, and thoughtfully integrative.

Alyssa works with children (6yrs+), youth, adults, parents, and families, and welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and intersectionalities, including members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community and neurodivergent folks. She has experience supporting individuals and families navigating trauma, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, relationship challenges, academic stress, addictions, chronic pain, and life events and transitions.

In her work, Alyssa draws from evidence-based approaches such as Somatic Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, Existential Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills to support meaningful and sustainable change. Alyssa also offers Brainspotting, a gentle yet powerful brain–body therapy that developed from eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

Brainspotting uses specific eye positions to help access and process stored emotional and physical experiences, including trauma, supporting the nervous system’s natural ability to heal and regulate. Therapy with Alyssa often extends beyond traditional talk therapy. Sessions may include somatic awareness, DBT-informed tools, mindfulness, creative expression through therapeutic art, or nature-based reflection, depending on each client’s needs and preferences. Alyssa is also trained in teaching Qigong, a slow, meditative movement practice similar to Tai Chi, which can be integrated to support nervous system regulation and grounding when aligned with a client’s goals. Alyssa believes counselling is a space to find balance between life’s challenges and moments of joy,

creativity, curiosity, and connection, allowing healing to unfold in both gentle and empowering ways. Outside of counselling, you can find Alyssa painting, practicing Qigong at the beach, growing herbs and vegetables, reading astrology charts, and experimenting with new recipes!
